Primary Schools and Special Primary Education
Use the button below to reserve a date and time slot per class and indicate which additional options you are interested in. Payment is made afterwards via invoice.
The educational offer for (special) primary education consists of two parts and is aimed at groups 6, 7, and 8. The first part is a lesson package with 9 themes for preparation at school. These themes can be discussed as a class, or each group can be assigned a theme to research and turn into a wall newspaper or presentation. The second part is a visit to the museum where students discover the 1940s village and history interactively in groups, following an Escape Room-style educational program.

See below for more information about the two parts
Part 1:
Lesson package at school

Part 1 is a lesson package that takes place at school as preparation. It covers the following themes:
1. The start of WWII
2. Ration coupons and substitute products
3. Radios
4. NSB (Dutch Nazi Party)
5. Resistance
6. Persecution of Jews
7. Hunger Winter
8. Food drops & food after WWII
9. The Liberation
The themes can be covered traditionally in 9 classroom lessons or by dividing the themes among 9 groups, who then create a wall newspaper or presentation about their theme. In doing so, they can also make connections to their own current living environment.
The goal of Part 1 is to increase general knowledge about the Second World War. The lesson package complies with the curriculum and aligns perfectly with the museum visit.
Costs (incl. VAT)
– Borrowing lesson package (part 1): €60
(Borrowing of laminated theme sheets, glossary, and teacher’s manual + workbooks sent in PDF format)
Part 2:
Museum visit with class

Part 2 is the interactive educational visit based on an Escape Room concept at the museum. In the War Museum, children will explore the themes from Part 1 in an interactive way within the 1940s village ‘Almersdorp’.
They will engage in black market bartering, search for the secret crawl space, decipher code phrases from Radio Oranje, and hunt for the hidden attic hideout. In this way, children are encouraged through observation and hands-on activities to become involved in local stories and actively engage with the various dilemmas and choices local people faced at the time.
At the end of the visit, we attempt to help the children make a connection with the choices they face (or will face) themselves. This takes place while enjoying a glass of lemonade and a treat. (Coffee/tea for supervisors will be tallied and added to the invoice)
Our preference is to cover both parts, but it is also possible to choose only the museum visit (Part 2) and handle the preparation at school using your own teaching materials.
Costs (incl. VAT)
– Chaperone visit: Free
– Student visit low season*: €5.00
– Student visit high season*: €6.50
– Museum Card or Vriendenloterij VIP-KAART: €0.00
If you have between 16 and 32 students per class, you can make a reservation via the ‘Book Now’ button below. If you have fewer or more students per class, please call to make a reservation.
* Low season = Summer holidays through January
High season = February until summer holidays
Tour in Army Trucks
Make it an unforgettable experience by letting the children take a tour in authentic WWII army trucks! Before or after the museum visit, the children can hop in the back and join a tour in these rugged trucks. There are two options for the tour: 20 minutes with one story along the way, or 30 minutes with two stories along the way. With both options, we stop at the very first WWII monument in the Netherlands, which happens to be located in Medemblik. During the 30-minute ride, we also stop at Radboud Castle.
Costs (incl. VAT)
The costs per truck (15 people) are €70 for a 20-minute ride and €90 for a 30-minute ride. Depending on the class size, 1, 2, or 3 trucks can be arranged. For an impression of the tour, see the video of a children’s party at the War Museum.

Paddling with WWII Assault Boats
The group is divided into small teams of 4-5 people. Everyone is provided with a WWII life jacket and a paddle. Your mission is a reconnaissance task in enemy territory. The group that returns the fastest and is the first to crank the WWII air raid siren on the quay wins! After the paddling race, a volunteer will lead an interactive discussion with the class comparing the experience to the ‘Waal Crossing’. (This activity lasts half an hour, of which the paddling takes about 10 minutes)
– Suitable for groups from 3 to 150 people.
Costs (incl. VAT)
– €5 per person.
