Inheritance

You may choose to leave something from your estate to a charitable cause such as the War Museum. To do so,
you can choose between an inheritance and/or a legacy. Below, we briefly explain the difference between
an inheritance and a legacy and provide two examples of an inheritance.

When settling your estate, a legacy takes precedence over an inheritance. After all costs,
claims, and legacies have been deducted from your assets, your net estate is divided among the
heirs you have named in your inheritance.

Examples:
Below you will find examples of how an inheritance can be recorded in your will:
EX. 1: “I appoint as my sole heir: Stichting Oorlogsmuseum Medemblik.”
EX. 2: “I appoint as my sole heirs: Mr./Ms. X for 25% of my estate, Mr. Y for 25%
of my estate, Stichting Het Wereld Natuur Fonds-Nederland for 25% of my estate,
and Stichting Oorlogsmuseum Medemblik for 25% of my estate.”

Given that a legacy takes precedence over an inheritance, it is also possible to combine the two by making a legacy
for specific goods and/or an amount, and subsequently including War Museum Medemblik in the
inheritance as well.
